Land O’Lakes Inc. has opened a $40 million innovation center in River Falls, Wisconsin that will be run by WinField United. According to Land O’Lakes President and CEO Chris Policinski, the mission of the center is to accelerate product development “toward more sustainable use of agricultural chemicals and nutrients.”
The center measures 55,000 square feet and includes wind tunnels that will be used to test different products — such as herbicides, insecticides, fungicides, seed treatments, plant nutrition products — that are applied by spraying. One wind tunnel focuses on droplet size, the other will simulate ground and air speed to see how velocity impact spraying. Products will then be tested in plots to collect data and measure their effectiveness.
